Traveling with pets.
At the last moment we decided not to travel by car, but by plane. Why, we will tell you later.
Finding a flight to Ibiza on short notice with space for two dogs was quite a challenge. A lot of people who live at Ibiza own dogs and after a winter break in Holland, they mostly travel back with their dogs in March. The first flight with dogs we could book was the end of March! Finally we called Transavia and the only option was one dog in a pet crate in the cargo compartment and one in a pet carrier on our lap. Karel weights 11 kilos, Iep 9,4 kilos. The dog has to be 10 kilos maximum, including the carrier!
We bought the travel carrier with the right measurements at Pet’s Place. Iep fitted, but her ears were touching the netting. And the bag weighted 1 kilo, so she had to lose 400 grams. On a diet!
But all went well and last Friday my sister Claudia drove us to Eindhoven airport.
In the plane Iep did not want to stay in the bag. The stewardess said:
“Oh if the pilot sees your dog on your lap, without the bag, he will not be happy”
“No, he will be fine, he is a dog owner too” the other stewardess said.
We safely arrived at 20:00 on Ibiza and when we came close to the house in our rental car, the dogs already recognized the area. Only one problem, the special food from Holland would arrive the next day. So we gave them some tuna fish out of the cans which we had left behind in October.
The next morning I woke up at 07:00 and had a great walk with the dogs. They were so happy to be back.
In the afternoon the 15 Naturis sausages steamed fish and meat arrived, so Karel and Iep could eat familiar food again. Now we have to find a solution how we get this food to Ibiza or find a store where they sell Naturis!
