Our New Year’s Eve (Nochevieja) we were celebrating with friends in Madrid. At the house of Davide in Lavapies.

Our Madrid friends like to dress-up. The dresscode this year was: “leggings“.

And another DJ

We arrived at the airport that day at 19:30 and brought the suitcases to our apartment with our rental car, walked the doggies in the park and finally arrived at 21:30. But still in time! Lots of new faces. The tapas made by Ramon were really great. We made the desert: we brought stroopwafels from Holland. Our neighbor Benjamin bought vanilla ice cream for us that day and we put the stroopwafels into small pieces together with the stroop in the ice. They all liked it. We also brought Dutch cheese.

One more time: Do you want to marry me??

Just before midnight, we gathered before a big TV showing TVE with live broadcast from Puerta del Sol main square and hosts Ramón García and (as always) Anne Igartiburu. At the countdown of the last twelve strokes, we had to swallow twelve grapes. For every chime of the clock one grape. You really have to eat fast!

Then we dance and danced and danced. Ooooh what a night. Do those guys ever stop??

A great way to start the New Year!

The custom to eat grapes before midnight at New Years Eve, does that bring luck or is there another reason?
    Love your sis

    Thanks SANTOMÉ we too!
Claudia, to answer your question I had to look it up:
When midnight strikes, you have to rapidly pop those twelve grapes – one for each chime of the clock – in your mouth. If you successfully complete the feat, twelve months of prosperity and good luck await you.
