A wonderful wedding on a wonderful island.
Last weekend we were invited at the wedding of Boris Blancafort and Christopher Peyton. It was a three day wedding with 250 people invited from 25 different countries. I took only pictures on the 2nd day: of the ceremony at the beautiful hotel Can Xuxu and a few pictures at the party on Saturday in the art deco hotel Es Vive. Scroll down if you want to see the 52 pictures first!
The Friday party was close to our house: Boutique Hostal Salinas situated in the center of a spectacular nature reserve, boasting sand dunes, forests, salt plains, beautiful beaches and incredible sunset views. This was the official warming-up pre-party. We could meet the families and friends of Boris and Peyton from around the globe. We were a bit nervous going. Because it was our first wedding after our own wedding in Rotterdam, so it gave us again this same adrenaline kick and also because we did not know if there would be familiar faces. But right away we felt relaxed with our welcome glass of sangria and DJ Alex Taylor playing and we met a lot of new people, some Ibiza locals whom we did not know yet and friendly people from the UK, Germany, Egypt and Australia. I guess everybody was open to meet new people.
Sunday was “The Hangover-Retox-Pool Party” at Hotel Es Vive in Figueretas, chilling at the pool with DJ and BBQ and from 6 p.m. a toast to the couple at the sunset-roof.
But now back to Saturday:
I had to pick up Johan at the HACO-store at 2 p.m. and we had to drive fast to the shuttle busses on the road to Cala Tarida, because the ceremony would start at 3. The location was wonderful. Can Xuxu is a Bali-style boutique hotel with beautiful views. We first had welcome-cocktails on the sunset terrace where we met our new friends from the night before.
Then we all had to move to the swimming pool where there were more cocktails.
When Boris and Peyton were entering the garden, Dylan Naylor was playing “Ave Maria” from Bach and Gounod on the violin. Our first tears were rolling down our cheeks, so romantic! The wedding ceremony was officiated by Reverend Jeanie Peyton, Christopher’s mother. Extremely beautiful and sweet! Again tears, and we were not the only ones.
During congratulating the newly weds Dusty Springfield‘s “Son of a preacher man” was played (Peyton’s father is a reverend too) followed by a live band, cake cutting and lots of special performances: first Rebeka Brown was singing “At Last” from Etta James, followed by saxophone-player The Lovely Laura who was playing John Paul Young’s “Love is in the Air” where we all sang-a-long the refrain. After that we had performances of Ben Onono, Rita Campbell who sang Bill Withers’ “Lovely day” followed by Simon Gad and last but not least: Katherine Ellis who sang a very special version of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”.
And the third time tears were rolling down was during the speeches, so beautiful and emotional. I really had to stay strong to not cry during the speech of Peyton’s father. Peyton’s homosexuality was first not accepted by his conservative and religious parents. And at one birthday when Peyton’s father asked him:
“What do you want for your birthday?”
Peyton answered: “The biggest present you could give me is accepting me who I am”
At this moment Johan really needed handkerchiefs, because he recognized this story from his own “coming out”. Luckily his neighbor had some paper napkins.
But we had some laugh-moments too, when Peyton’s father was giving his speech. A story about an ugly shawl.
Well … pictures say more than a thousand words:
For me the most beautiful performance was the one at the end. Where Peyton sang his newly written love-song for Boris, with some of the performers of that afternoon as backing vocals, singing “Stand by me”.
Around 7 PM we took the shuttle bus back to our car, drove to La Revista where we fed and walked the dogs and made ourselves ready for the party at Hotel Es Vive in Figueretas. We ate lovely paella and danced on the music of DJ Stewart Who, and many more DJ’s inside the hotel.
A total honor to be guests at the most wonderful wedding on the most wonderful island: three days “The Festival of Love”. And yes, it was really A “Lovely Day” and “Love was in the Air”!
Boris and Peyton, thank you so much that we could share these incredible beautiful days with you and with the most amazing bunch of people: your sweet family and lovely friends.
